How to outsource the logistics of your Shopify store

Outsourcing a Shopify store’s logistics takes a week if done in order: clean catalogue, app installed, stock announced and received, a test order and shipping methods mapped. Here is the list.

Before connecting: the catalogue

Every variant with a unique SKU and, ideally, a barcode. Bundles defined as bundles. Approximate weights per variant. Without this, the provider will have to ask you about every SKU that does not match.

Onboarding week

Day 1: install the provider’s app and map your shipping methods to carrier services. Day 2–3: announce the inbound and send stock with a delivery note. Day 4: received, counted and put away; you review discrepancies. Day 5: a test order to your own address. From then on, live.

What you never delegate

Decisions on doubtful returns, orders pending payment, the partial-shipping policy and communication with your buyer. A good provider puts them in front of you to decide with one tap, not decides for you.

How to outsource the logistics of your Shopify store: frequently asked questions

Do I lose control of stock when outsourcing?

The opposite, if the provider gives you a portal with real-time stock and a movement ledger. What you lose is having to count it yourself.

How does Shopify connect to a logistics provider?

With an app you install on your Shopify store: from then on orders flow into the provider’s system on their own, real stock goes back to Shopify and the tracking number is added to each order when it ships. The only thing you set up is the mapping of your shipping methods to carrier services.

Can I outsource my Shopify logistics without pausing sales?

Yes, if you do it in stages: you keep packing orders yourself while the goods travel to the warehouse, and the provider starts shipping as soon as they are received and put away, which takes one or two days. During the switch, keep an eye on Shopify stock reflecting what is left in each place.
